Wind Truth Alliance

For Responsible Regulation

Mission:turbinesize

As a citizen-based, volunteer, non-profit organization, Wind Truth Alliance was formed to conduct research, create educational materials and provide information to the public on the potential issues that could be created for our community with the installation of industrial wind turbines.   WTA supports the development of viable renewable energy sources to lead to a healthier environment for all the earth’s inhabitants.  WTA is committed to working toward the adoption of responsible regulations so that any industrial development of wind turbines in our communities will be done in a responsibly regulated manner to continue to provide for the constitutional protection of the health, welfare and safety of its citizens.

Vision:

Wind Truth Alliance is committed to collecting, analyzing and sharing of accurate information and public opinion regarding industrial wind turbines.  Our goal is through participation in government activities and by educating the public, we can work together with all the residents of our community (Jefferson, Monroe, Rushcreek townships of Logan County, Ohio and Union Township in Champaign County, Ohio, plus surrounding townships and communities as may be added) to reach mutually beneficial terms and conditions for the proper regulation of industrial wind turbines.

Policy Statement:

Although international wind production conglomerates have been promoting the placement of industrial wind turbines in our community (Ohio’s Logan and Champaign Counties) for a few years, only about one year ago did our local citizens realize the far-reaching implications of these efforts.  During that time we have been amassing strong local support with the goal of ensuring such an industry is properly regulated before it could become established in our community.  To help best prepare our community, Wind Truth Alliance for Responsible Regulations (Wind Truth Alliance) was established by citizens of Logan and Champaign counties who have a desire to help our community avoid the problems that improperly sited and underregulated wind turbines have caused in other communities worldwide.

We believe each of us must help do everything we responsibly can to help alleviate the problems caused by our ever increasing energy consumption and emissions of greenhouse gases.  Wind power may beneficially help minimize both of those problems; however, we must be certain that the trade-offs we make are worthwhile for present and future generations.  These decisions must not be made based on promises of short-term final gain for a few, but rather, must be made with the best interests of the majority of our community members for decades to come.

The communities of Logan and Champaign counties in Ohio are more heavily populated than any other areas in the country where industrial wind turbines now exist.  We must ensure ourselves and our future generations that we have not acted in haste or moved foolishly to adopt this still fledgling industry, that if not properly regulated, could eternally change our landscape and permanently alter our quality of life.

These are local decisions, to be made by the citizens of our communitites and by the leaders they elect.  Appropriate township zoning regulations are the key to ensuring that this pioneering industry thrives in the most appropriate environments while simultaneously protecting non-participating land owners from being harmed by them.  Regardless of Governor Strickland’s $3 million incentive to Everpower Renewables, or his desire for attaining 20% of our power from renewable energy sources by 2020, this is still a local issue and our citizens will not be bullied into believing we have no choices in these decisions.  Wind Truth Alliance members are volunteering their time and efforts to work with our local and state government leaders to help them develop the most appropriate planning and zoning regulations – to ensure protection of all of its citizens -- now and in the future.  We want our community to be a model for our country, for renewable energy done right, as we move forward toward energy independence.
